Data sharing, crash tests, full-scale exercises — Renault is committed to reducing the number and severity of road accidents. Its Human First Program, developed in collaboration with researchers, experts, and firefighters, has a single goal: to improve road safety for all users every single day.In 2025, Renault is going even further with the Universal Patent initiative, opening up its safety patents to competitors.

Renault & firefighters: a unique and unprecedented partnership

As part of the Human First Program, Renault teamed up with the Naudet brothers — acclaimed filmmakers known for their documentaries on 9/11 and the Notre-Dame fire — to showcase the deep and dynamic collaboration between the Group and road rescue teams. It’s an extraordinary journey: the fusion of engineering and R&D in service of the “golden hour”, those crucial minutes when first responders do everything they can to save lives.
FORMATIONS
firefighter training
Renault is the only car manufacturer in the world to have a full-time firefighter integrated into its engineering team and to work regularly with road rescue crews. In just a few years, Renault has trained 5,000 firefighters across 21 countries worldwide! New training sessions are already planned in Europe and Latin America.
QRESCUE RENAULT
QRescue Renault: time saved for rescuers
A QR code placed on the front and rear windshields, Renault's QRescue gives firefighters instant access to the vehicle’s emergency response datasheet. It provides all the critical information firefighters need to intervene quickly and safely. This smart solution can save up to 15 valuable minutes during the golden hour — when every second counts in saving lives.
TECHNOLOGIES DEVELOPED IN PARTNERSHIP
Safety
Fireman Access
Even though our high-voltage batteries are designed to prevent any damage from internal causes, fires due to external factors can still occur. In the event of a fire spreading to the battery, Renault's Fireman Access — an in-house innovation — allows firefighters to direct the water jet straight into the heart of the battery, extinguishing a battery fire in under 10 minutes, compared to the industry average of 4 hours. This not only saves around 42,000 liters of water per intervention, but more importantly, it saves crucial time for emergency responders. In 2025, Renault is launching the Universal Patent initiative, because safety shouldn’t be restricted by patents — and is opening the Fireman Access patent to all competitors.

SD Switch
The “SD Switch” instantly disconnects the battery from the high-voltage electrical system.

safety, cutting-edge vehicles

Over the past 50 years, Renault has helped reduce the number of road fatalities by a factor of five. To continuously improve safety for everyone, the experts at the LAB (Accidentology and Biomechanics Laboratory) and the 600 engineers and technicians work tirelessly on innovations. In total, Renault has filed over 2,000 patents and offers cutting-edge solutions, such as Fireman Access and SD Switch.

mobility and security of tomorrow

Renault's road safety policy is based on five key pillars: raise awareness, prevent, correct, protect, and rescue. Innovations are constantly emerging, such as Safety Score, Safety Coach, and Safety Guardian, which are set to revolutionize safety behind the wheel.
